Climb Mulhacén in the summer (without using the National Park bus)

in  1000 to 1500m, 20 to 30km, Alpujarras, Day Walks

Circular Distance 25km Ascent 1300m Time 9hrs 30mins Access: Capileira, Alpujarras Start: Hoya del Portillo. Keep following the road through Capileira. In 5 mins you will pass horse riding stables. Immediately after take the right when the road forks. Follow this rough track for 15 mins. Park at the Forestry Station barrier and car park. Suitable for saloon cars with care. End: Route Description From the Alpujarras to the south the ascent of Mulhacen, highest peak in mainland Spain can be done in a long day in the summer.

Vereda de Estrella path to Cueva Secreta

in  1000 to 1500m, 20 to 30km, Day Walks, Guejar Sierra

The historical “Vereda de Estrella” path winds its way up a narrow valley before turning southwards. At this point a classic view of the north faces of Sierra Nevada giants of Alcazaba (3350m) and Mulhacen (3482m) come into view Circular Distance 21km Ascent 730m Time 6hrs 45mins Access: Güéjar Sierra via Granada. The town of Güéjar-Sierra (1000m) is very easily reached from Granada city in 30 mins via the A-395 (Cenes de la Vega and Pinos-Genil) Start: Barranco de San Juan.

A 2 day trek crossing the Sierra Nevada from north to south. Ski Area to Puente Palo above Cañar in the Alpujarras, staying in Refugio Elorrieta overnight Linear Distance 21km Ascent 1000m Time 8hrs 30mins Access: Ski area via Granada. From the main Granada ring road (Circunvalación) follow the well signposted mountain road to Sierra Nevada (A-395). This leads to the main ski resort at Pradollano Start: Hoya de la Mora.

Trek from the Sierra Nevada Ski area to Lanjaron in the Alpujarras

A 2 day crossing high level of the Sierra Nevada wild camping en route. Quite difficult due to the huge descent to Lanjarón at the end. Linear Distance 30km Ascent 1100m Time 12hrs Access: Ski area via Granada. From the main Granada ring road (Circunvalación) follow the well signposted mountain road to Sierra Nevada (A-395). This leads to the main ski resort at Pradollano Start: Hoya de la Mora.
