Climb Mulhacén in the summer (without using the National Park bus)

in  1000 to 1500m, 20 to 30km, Alpujarras, Day Walks

Circular Distance 25km Ascent 1300m Time 9hrs 30mins Access: Capileira, Alpujarras Start: Hoya del Portillo. Keep following the road through Capileira. In 5 mins you will pass horse riding stables. Immediately after take the right when the road forks. Follow this rough track for 15 mins. Park at the Forestry Station barrier and car park. Suitable for saloon cars with care. End: Route Description From the Alpujarras to the south the ascent of Mulhacen, highest peak in mainland Spain can be done in a long day in the summer.

Cortijos Hornillos circular hike

in  10 to 20km, 500 to 1000m, Day Walks, Guejar Sierra

Circular Distance 14km Ascent 690m Time 5hrs Access: Güéjar Sierra via Granada - the town of Güéjar-Sierra (1000m) is very easily reached from Granada city in 30 mins via the A-395 (Cenes de la Vega and Pinos-Genil) Start: Barranco de San Juan. Take the main road east of Güéjar-Sierra well signposted to the Verada Estrella. This narrow road drops steadily down to the Rio Genil and passes through a series of tunnels on it’s way to the trailhead where there is a restaurant and car park.

Vereda de Estrella path to Cueva Secreta

The historical “Vereda de Estrella” path winds its way up a narrow valley before turning southwards. At this point a classic view of the north faces of Sierra Nevada giants of Alcazaba (3350m) and Mulhacen (3482m) come into view Circular Distance 21km Ascent 730m Time 6hrs 45mins Access: Güéjar Sierra via Granada. The town of Güéjar-Sierra (1000m) is very easily reached from Granada city in 30 mins via the A-395 (Cenes de la Vega and Pinos-Genil) Start: Barranco de San Juan.
